In BlokDust, Sample is a Source block. It works as a sample player, allowing you to load in audio files directly from SoundCloud, and play those tracks back in BlokDust as samples which can be looped, reversed, or played with a selected region.
Sample blocks connected to Power blocks are effective for loops, while connecting the Sample block to a controller makes an effective sample keyboard.
In it’s options, ‘Region’ gives you a graphic of the waveform, and lets you drag locators for the Start, End and Loop Start & Loop End. The ‘Sample’ setting lets you open the SoundCloud search screen, where you can search and select tracks, or perform a randomised search if you don’t know what you’re looking for. Clicking on a track will load it as your new sample. The ‘Reverse’ switch will switch the direction the track plays, and ‘Loop’ will toggle between wether the sample just plays through once, or continues looping between the Loop Start & Loop End locators. ‘Playback’ sets the speed/pitch of the sample.
The SoundCloud search panel will return tracks which either have a license other than “All Rights Reserved”, or are tagged “blokdust”. A selection of specially recorded samples have been added to the BlokDust account on SoundCloud (search “blokdust” when loading a sample).
